When I heard about news anchor Sue Simmons from New York blurting out the "F-bomb" on the air to her co-anchor, it really made me wish we'd had "You tube" back when I was an anchor for CBS.
Those who've read my book know the story- but my first day anchoring the 11am news, we had a breaking news story 2 minutes before the start of the news cast- which required we go live to a "secured" interview on the South Side of Chicaco. We didn't know any of the details other than there'd been a shooting, and the rest would be filled in by our interview.
As I tossed it to our reporter, we quickly found that there was no "secure" interview, but a group of guys drinking on the porch.
"Sir, could you tell me what happened?" our reporter asked a man swigging booze out of his paper bag.
"Well, I was just sittin' here with my peeps, yo! And this dude came up with his car, yo- and he pulled out his piece, and said three words; Don't MOVE motherfucker!"
I looked at my floor director in stunned silence- and then our stage manager said while looking at the monitor, "Did that motherfucker just say motherfucker?!"
It was a hilarious moment-
Gotta love live television.
